Caffeine will stop your PC from switching to a Sleep state while it is active.
It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver.
The icon sits in the task tray. Double clicking it will empty the coffee pot in the icon and disable the program, and double-clicking it will re-enable it and the icon will change to a full coffee pot.
There are also some more command line options you can see here.
